I can still clearly remember wearing traditional metal braces throughout junior high, and all of the hassles that came with it: Having to stick a gob of wax at the ends of the wires, so they wouldn't poke me on the insides of my cheeks; regularly changing the rubber bands that linked my top and bottom braces; heading straight to the bathroom after lunch to make sure there were no unsightly food bits stuck in the metal hardware.
